Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that can treat a number of oral problems. When you visit Coastal Orthodontic Care, Dr. Lautt will evaluate your oral health and look for any developing problems. Our treatments can help correct or prevent many problems that would require more extensive treatment later in life. We invite you to learn more about orthodontic issues and whether treatment is right for you by contacting our office at 805-650-1080 and scheduling an appointment with our team.

We are dedicated to treating all types of orthodontic issues so you can enjoy a beautiful smile that is straighter, healthier and ultimately more functional. Some of the most common orthodontic problems we see at our office include the following:

Overbite

In an overbite, the upper front teeth extend out over the lower front teeth. This sometimes causes the lower front teeth to contact the roof of the mouth.

Underbite

An underbite occurs when the lower jaw extends out, resulting in the lower front teeth sitting in front of the upper front teeth.

Open Bite

An open bite is characterized by upper and lower front teeth that do not overlap. This often causes problems with chewing, and it may also contribute to other unwanted habits like tongue thrusting.

Crossbite

In a crossbite, the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth. This may result in tooth stratification and misaligned jaw growth.

Upper Front Teeth Protrusion

In this type of bite, either the upper teeth extend too far forward or the lower front teeth do not extend far enough forward. This can impact both the appearance and function of your smile.

Dental Midlines Not Matched

This orthodontic problem is caused when the back bite does not fit and match correctly, and it may negatively impact the jaw and proper dental function.

Orthodontic Emergencies

Orthodontic emergencies can be anything from broken brackets, wires or appliances, just to name a few. In order to prevent and minimize damage or a treatment set-back, please notify our office as soon as possible if you experience any of these examples or have other concerns. It is our priority to get you comfortable and moving forward with your treatment. We want your orthodontic experience with us to be as enjoyable as possible.
